Xiaomi’s Next-Gen Smart Factory: Pioneering AI-Powered Manufacturing for Flagship Phones
Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi Group, announced on July 8 that the next-generation Xiaomi smart factory with a total investment of 2.4 billion yuan in Changping, Beijing, was officially put into use. It is dedicated to the production of flagship mobile phones, especially the highly anticipated Xiaomi MIX Fold4/Filp folding screen series.
Xiaomi has invested in smart manufacturing since 2017, and established a laboratory-level smart factory in Yizhuang in 2019, with an annual output of about 1 million mobile phones. Now the Changping smart factory is officially put into use. The total construction area of the factory is 81,000 square meters, with 11 production lines. It does not rely on traditional production line employees. It is a 100% fully automated, large-scale mass-produced smart factory. Most of the equipment and all manufacturing software are developed by Xiaomi itself, becoming the latest case of large-scale use of AI in factories assembling high-end smartphones in China. This innovation not only improves production speed, but also ensures the consistency and stability of product quality.
Xiaomi’s smart factory uses the world’s most advanced automation, digital production lines and intelligent manufacturing technologies, and has infiltrated core capabilities such as “data-driven, flexible and agile, global collaboration, and green and low-carbon” into every aspect of intelligent manufacturing. It is one of the most intelligent and digital mobile phone factories in China. It has now been certified as a “national smart manufacturing benchmark enterprise”.
Under 24-hour operation, Xiaomi claims that the average daily output can reach 30,000 smartphones and 10 million flagship smartphones a year, and the MIX Fold 4 and MIX Flip folding phones launched in July will be shipped from here.
Xiaomi said that the 100% self-developed Xiaomi Hyper IMP (Intelligent Manufacturing Platform) is the brain of the factory, injecting soul into the factory, allowing the entire factory to have self-perception, self-decision-making, and self-execution capabilities, and can independently diagnose equipment problems, improve process flows, and realize full-scenario digital management from raw material procurement to delivery, becoming a truly smart factory that can evolve by itself.
The opening of Xiaomi’s new factory not only marks the enhanced competitiveness of Xiaomi in the global smartphone market, but also has a profound impact on the industry. Competitors may face pressure to accelerate technological innovation and improve production efficiency to meet challenges. At the same time, consumers will enjoy higher quality products and services, promoting the popularization of foldable screens and other innovative technologies.
