According to Li Jianxin’s recollection, “I founded a company in 2003, but it didn’t last more than three years. I quit. Frankly speaking, I didn’t make any money, but I learned some experience and some insights.”
Until 2014, his entrepreneurial career kicked off again. That year, he resigned from Acer and founded Imilab Technology. In the same year, Imilab Technology completed the angel round of financing invested by Xiaomi Group and became one of the earliest Xiaomi ecological chain companies.
At the beginning of its establishment, although it also made popular products such as Mi Key and Xiaomi Smart Socket, the company did not make a profit due to low customer unit price and other reasons. By 2016, Imilab ushered in its darkest moment, owing shareholders more than 20 million and failing to successfully raise funds. In desperation, Li Jianxin began to take over the company’s business in an all-round way, and “replaced” the team, concentrating on the final fight on the smart camera product. In June of that year, Imilab officially launched the Xiaomi Imilab smart camera. This product quickly exploded the market as soon as it came out, helping Imilab’s revenue exceed 100 million yuan that year, and Imilab Technology also became the first member of the 100 million yuan club of Xiaomi Ecosystem. Since then, the company has further clarified its strategy and successively released diversified products such as Xiaobai smart door locks and smart doors.
